Have you ever heard the saying, “You can’t put a crown on a cow and call it a Queen.” No? Well that’s ok because it’s the meaning that’s important. Just because you place something beautiful on something that could be considered not so beautiful, doesn’t make the whole thing beautiful… or something. What I’m trying to say is that you can’t just add SEO to your product and that product becomes magically good.
SEO is important—very important—and is very useful to any company with any product. However, if your product is not very good, then you aren’t going to get the leads or attention you want even with SEO. Just because you have people coming to you site regularly, doesn’t mean they are going to buy your product when they get there. So what can you do to make sure your product is something that people will want to buy?
First, you can do some research on how much your product is in demand in your area. Pass out flyers, set up a booth at the mall and see if people want to sign up. Ask friends and family near you if they are interested in you product and if they think other people would be too. Even if they don’t want your product they might still like it and let you know about people who do want it. Also being open to people’s opinions can help you understand what people want.
Once you know if your product actually is wanted, you can move on to the next step and start refining your product to make it as close to perfect as possible. Start mimicking successful businesses that have the same product as you. Yes, I know that you want to be original and do your own thing, but that might not be working. You need to establish a reputation of having a good product first, then you can experiment with your own original ideas.
After you have found that your product is desirable then you can start really utilizing your SEO. SEO can then get your sites higher up on the search engines and make sure there are no problems with your site. Then you can make sure the crown is nice and sparkly making you a real King/Queen of your industry.
